"...God has the power to graft them in again." -Rom 11 v 23 Have you ever talked with someone about a movie and realized, as they share their experience and perspective on said movie, that they missed the main point? I remember once a young woman giving her perspective on the classic 1984 Karate Kid film. Her words unveiled that all she caught about the movie was how bonsai trees are too expensive to be used that way, as they were in the film, and how annoying that was. You see, she missed the reason why it is such a beloved classic. It is a story of overcoming the dehumanizing event of physical, social, and mental bullying in the life of a young man. She also failed to see how the movie reveals that older men, like Mr. Miyagi, are given new life when they have a young man to pour into and mentor. Lament for Charlie Kirk 9-14-25

This past week has been one of the darkest in recent memory, reaching back to 2020. We have been reminded how wicked people perversely want to kill children, not just in the womb, but in schools. And, once again, we saw the fruit of a lawless society. Only in a godless society do people sit back and watch a young Ukrainian immigrant woman being brutally murdered on a train in Charlotte by another out-of-control, wicked person, a man who was freely roaming our streets, who never should have been free to do so. It is always horrible to see unarmed men murdered. America was heartsick to see political leaders like JFK, RFK, and MLK assassinated. It is particularly horrific to see a man who invited free debate and modeled dignified debate gunned down in the public arena. The NT does not contain a detailed code of rules for the Christian. Codes of rules, as Paul explains elsewhere, are suited to the period of immaturity when the children of God are still under guardians; but children who have come to years of responsibility know their father’s will without having to be provided with a long list of “Do’s” and “Don’t’s.” What the NT does provide is those basic principles of Christian living which may be applied to varying situations of life as they arise. So, after answering the Corinthian Christians’ question about the eating of food that has been offered to idols, Paul sums up his advice in the words: “whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do all to the glory of God” (1 Cor. 10:31).
