R.C. Sproul comments on John 10-
Jesus’ View of Scripture
I do not want to pass over a brief parenthetical comment Jesus made in this passage: “The Scripture cannot be broken” (v. 35b). I’m often asked why I have such a high view of sacred Scripture. It’s very simple. Let’s assume the Bible is only basically reliable, not inspired, but simply a decent historical record from history. ... He tells us that Scripture is much more than basically reliable. It cannot be broken.
I’ve heard it said that the days of Billy Graham-style evangelism are over.
No longer can a minister stand up in a pulpit and hold up this book and say, “The Bible says.…”
We’re too sophisticated for that, because we believe that our increase in knowledge and critical understanding has smashed the authority of Scripture into smithereens.
But Jesus disagreed. He said Scripture cannot be broken.
