Sunday evenings are a great way to close out the Lord's Day. However, when our congregation is not gathered for a Sunday evening service, my family and I typically try to spend that evening with the Herndon family. They are founding members of La Plata Baptist Church. In fact, it began in their living room in 1981. They are such a sweet blessing to the congregation and we love their company.
We bring food over with us most of the time. On occasion we will splurge for pizza. It does not require too much. We keep it simple. Over the last couple of years this tradition has meant so much to us and our boys. It is always time well spent. There really is something to scheduling regular time for fellowship with others in the church.
It is amazing how much meaningful fellowship can be accomplished if you only build it into your calendar. Sure, you may not do it every time you have it marked down; however, you will meet more than you would have had it not been there.
Here is a sweet picture I took of Lara and Joyce yesterday. The times we have with them are always uplifting and encouraging to our hearts. They make us feel like their family and we are honored to be included.
As a pastor, this truly is one the best parts of the job.
We love you Don and Joyce!
